AYSO Region 266 - Marine Park Soccer

Volunteer with AYSO today!

AYSO runs on the power of our volunteers! With over 100,000 parents, neighbors, relatives, and friends lending their time and talents, each child gets a terrific AYSO experience. Help make a difference in the lives of the kids in your community today! Ready to play?

Become an AYSO Coach

AYSO has developed special training to help volunteers who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to become outstanding coaches.

Become an AYSO Referee

The referee’s job is to be the official in charge of the game. A referee’s authority extends to everyone at the field, including players, substitutes, team officials, spectators, and even assistant referees. AYSO Referees keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone: the players, the coaches, the spectators, and themselves!

OUR AYSO REFEREES

NEW ROLES FOR THE 2026 FALL SEASON!

  • Team Parent: The coach's logistical partner. Manages things like team communication, snack schedules, game-day reminders, picture day, and end-of-season celebrations so the coach can focus on coaching.
  • Assistant Regional Commissioner (ARC):  The Assistant Regional Commissioner works alongside the RC to help run the day-to-day business of the Region and supports the Regional Board across strategy, operations, and volunteer coordination. ARCs often shadow the RC to learn the role, step in when the RC is unavailable, etc. This is a high-impact role for someone who wants a broad view of how the Region runs and is open to developing into future RC leadership. (Selfishly, those of us on the board can't commit to our roles forever!)
  • Division Coordinator (DC): The goal is for each Division to have its own DC so that special attention is paid to each Division and its needs. The DC will handle activities and communication within a division and serves as the liaison between the Regional Commissioner and the coaches, referees, and parents in that division. One of the key responsibilities will be to work closely with the RC to form the teamsOther responsibilities include making sure every team has coaches and referees available at each session.
  • Social Media Director: I really see this role as an opportunity for someone who already has a hobby or career in it or interested in pursuing a career with this skillset. It is something that could be added to a resume, so if you or someone you know (including high school students) is interested, please consider this role. If you are selecting this on behalf of someone you know, you can email me separately with the details. Note, it does not have to be someone that's playing in the league.
  • Fundraising/Sponsorship Director: While our board is actively taking on this role, I want to tap into the community as I'm sure there are some people out there with this background or skill set, especially those that have been around the Marine Park community for a long time and know a lot of the local businesses.
  • Field Set-up or Tear-Down (once a season): Before taking on this role, I didn't fully appreciate the efforts being undertaken by only a few individuals to get our fields game ready for the kids. So we are hoping some of you will be able to pitch in at least once during the season. If you play in the earlier session, then you would be great to assist in the field set-up, which involves setting up the goals. If you play in the later session, then the role would be for the tear-down, which is bringing the goals back to the shed. Hopefully, asking for once a season isn't asking for too much, as it would alleviate the burden on just a few of us all season.
  • Line Painting (once a season): We typically refresh the paint every 2-3 weeks but with a total of 10+ fields, you can imagine it takes a lot of time and effort. So like the field-set up/tear-down, we are just asking for some of you to pitch in once during the season. Believe it or not, it can be quite peaceful and therapeutic. Just put on some headphones, listen to music, and walk around the field with the paint machines.

How does AYSO protect its volunteers and athletes?

Safe Haven™ is a program designed to address a growing need for child and volunteer protection. There are four elements in the Safe Haven™ intervention cycle: Create Policies, Screen Volunteers, Train Volunteers, and Promote Education and Awareness. These are intended to stop child abuse and its agents before they get into the program.  In AYSO, children play in a friendly and safe environment.

The Volunteer Protection Act of 1997

This law grants immunity from certain types of prosecution for volunteers who meet its requirements. In order to receive full protection under the law, AYSO volunteers need must: 1. be properly trained and certified; 2. be performing duties as laid out in a position description; 3. act within the scope of AYSO's Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines.
